wa  qad    'aDalluu              kaxiiran wa  laa   tazidi    
and indeed  they have led astray  many    and don't increase

-ZZaalimiina 'illaa Dalaalan
the unjust    but   error

wa  qaaluu     laa tavarunna 
And they say:  don't y'all leave

'aalihata kum   wa  laa tavarunna      waddan wa   laa suwaaAan 
gods      y'all and don't y'all leave  Wadd   and  not Suwa     

wa  laa yaguuxa wa  yaAuuqa wa  nasran
and not Yaghus  and Yauq    and Nasr

so that   y'all walk            from   her   roads     wide
That you may go along   therein  in wide paths.
That ye may thread the  thereof  valley-ways .
'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.

wa allahu jaQala   lakumu  l'arDa     bisaaTan
And Allah has made for you the earth  a wide expanse,
                                      as a carpet (spread out),

071.18

xumma            yuAiidu                   -kum               
Then             He returns                you               
And afterward    He maketh return thereto,                           
'And in the End  He will return                   

fiihaa 
to it
into the earth

wa    yuQriju              -kum   'iQraajan
then  will He bring forth  you    a (new) bringing forth:
and                               a (new) forthbringing.
      raise                       forth (again at the                                               Resurrection)?

071.17

wa allahu  'anbata             -kum  mina    
And Allah  has made grow       you  out of  
           hath caused to grow   
           has produced                                  


l'arDi     nabaatan
the earth  as a growth
           growing (gradually)

071.16

wa  jaAala    lQamara  fiihinna  nuuran 
And made      the moon therein   a light, 
    hath made   
                                 a light in their midst, 

wa jaAala lcamsa   siraajan
and made  the sun  a lamp?
                   a (Glorious) Lamp?

071.15

'alam    tarau    kaifa Qalaqaullahu       sabAa     samaawaatin 
 Do not  you  see how   has created Allah  the seven heavens ,~ 

Tibaaqan
one above another,                                              in harmony,

071.14

waqad              Kalaqa-             kum   'aTwaaran
And indeed         He has created      you   through various grades:
When               by (divers) stages?
Seeing that it is  He that has created       in diverse stages?

071.13

maa  lakum                        laa tarjuuna                 
What is the matter with you that  not you fear                 
What aileth you that ye not           hope                 
                                      ye place your hope  

lillahi        waqaaran
of Allah       the greatness ?
toward Allah   for dignity
in Allah       for kindness and long-suffering

071.12

wa  yumdidkum          bi   'amwaalin  
And help you           with  wealth   
    will help you            
    Give you increase                                   

wa  baniina wa   yajAal        lakum 
and sons,   and  make          for you
                 will assign   unto you
                 bestow on you


jannaatin wa   yajAal lakum         'anhaaran
gardens,  and  make   for you        rivers.
               will assign unto you
               bestow on you

071.11

yursili  ssamaa'a    Aalaikum            midraaran
He will  the cloud  send down upon you , pouring down abundance                                            of rain:
         the sky    let loose  for you   in plenteous rain
         rain       send to you          in abundance

071.10

faqultu          stagfiru            rabbakum    'innahu  kaana Then I said,     Ask forgiveness of  your Lord,  surely   He is  
And I have said: Seek pardon of      your Lord.           He was

ever Forgiving

071.09

xumma 'innii   'Alantu                           lahum    
Then  surely  I spoke in public                  to them  
And           I have made public proclamation 

wa  asrartu              lahum   'israaran
and I spoke              to them  in secret:
    I have appealed               in private
    secretly in private,

071.08

xumma   'innii daAautu-     hum   jjihaaran
Then     surely I called to them  aloud:
And lo!  I have called unto them  aloud,
So 

071.07

wa   'innii  kullamaa daAautu-      hum    li-tagfira la hum 
And  lo! I   whenever I have called them  that Thou                                                         mayest forgive them,
                      I call unto 

jaAaluu    'aSaabiAa-hum    fii  aavaani-him    
they put    fingers their   in    their ears  
     thrust 

wastagcau               xiyaaba-  hum    wa 'aSarruu           
cover themselves with  garments   their  and persist                                                          grown obstinate        
                                              

wa  stakbaruu 
and are puffed up
    magnify themselves
    given themselves up to arrogance.

falam yavid-hum             duAa'ii        'illaa  
But   has  only made them   my call         but        
      add to their          all my calling

repugnance;

qaala     rabbi      'inni   daAautu       Qaumii  
He said:  O my Lord!  surely I have called my people  

lailan     wa  nahaaran
by night  and  by day!

071.04

yagfir lakum           min  
He will forgive you   some of
                       somewhat of
          
vunuubi-kum           wa
your faults           and
your sins
       
   
yu'aKKar-kum          'ilaa 
grant you a delay      to
respite you
     

'ajalin           musamma
an appointed      term;


'inna           'ajala allahi 
surely           the term of Allah


'izaa   ja'a
when   it comes

laa   yu'aKKaru
not   is postponed

lau kuntum   taAlamuuna
but  did     you know

071.03

'ani  -Abuduu            allaha  wa      -ttaquu-hu 
That  you should serve  Allah    and     be careful of                 ye should worship                  (your duty to)Him 
                                         keep your duty unto Him
                                         fear Him

wa  'aTiiAuu-ni
and  obey me

071.02

Qaala     yaa qaumi      'inni            lakum    naviirun 
He said:  O  my people!   Surely I am a   to you    warner :
  Lo!   unto

'innaa     'arsalnaa  nuuHan 'ilae  qaumi-hi   'an    'anvir  
surely we   we sent   Nuh     to    his people  that:  warn 

qauma-ka       min  qabli   'an    ya'tiya     -hum
your people    from before  that   comes upon  them

a chastisement  painful
  penalty       grievous
